科學家都看不懂的護膚品廣告？1

妳有留意化妝品廣告裡面的用字嗎？聽了一大堆百科全書裡都查不到的“獨家”特效成份名稱和龍飛鳳舞般的形容詞後，再細心聆聽這樣的廣告旁白，發覺整個句子都是語病，根本講不通？妳有沒有留意到這個情形？

原來英國每日電訊報刊登過一則以“Baffled by the beauty adverts? So is a Nobel prizewinner”為題的文章，正好解釋上述困惑的原因，所以順便和大家Share一下。

擁有化學博士學位的作者Roger Highfield在為其妻子選購“名牌面霜”作為聖誕禮物的過程中發覺，他竟然抓破頭皮也無法理解這些Facial cream的廣告。於是作者決定向英國頂尖的科學家們討教這些Facial cream的廣告到底在說甚麼。

Lancôme Aqua Fusion

宣稱“Lancôme scientists have created Aquacellular (TM), a unique moisture complex of 16 essential elements found naturally in radiant, healthy-looking skin.”（Lancôme科研人員創造出獨家Aquacellular成份，該獨一無二的Moisture complex含16種於容光煥發和健康皮膚裡天然含有的Essential element。）

英國倫敦國家醫學研究院（The National Institute for Medical Research）幹細胞科學家Robin Lovell-Badge教授就覺得聽起來Moisture complex所指的應該是泥漿（Mud）。繼而他記起1939年的情形，當時普遍認為植物的生存必需（Essential）依賴地球上90來個元素中的16個元素（Element），所以Lancôme想表達的就是這些？

貝爾法斯特皇后大學（The Queen's University of Belfast）的Ken Seddo教授是作者Roger Highfield的恩師，他困惑不解地說，“Element這個字眼含義模糊，所指的是化學元素還是成份？Essential又是指對甚麼而必需？Natural？流行性感冒也是Natural的東西，這個形容詞在本質上並不帶有正面的意思。獨一無二又代表甚麼？Moisture complex的意思更是沒法定義。”

Lancôme的回應說，“其實所指的是保持健康皮膚得到適當保濕所需的化合物。Lancôme的實驗室成功為這些化合物解密，並在合成物Aquacellular中成功重組。它由12種氨基酸與糖
，乳酸，3種微量元素，一共16種Essential element組成。”（“This refers to the compound necessary to maintain a good level of hydration in healthy looking skin.” “The Lancôme laboratories have successfully decoded the compound and succeeded in recreating it in a complex called Aquacellular. It's made of 16 essential 'elements', which are 12 amino acids and sugars, lactic acid and three trace elements."）

故作神祕，應該一早在廣告裡說清楚。
